Born in 1961, in Chicago USA, Daniel Gillespie Clowes is a true genius of the alternative comic books scene. He is an author, screenwriter and cartoonist.
In 1979, after finishing high school, he attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, one of the leading art schools in the United States. In his early career years, he failed to find a position as Illustrator in New York. He contributed in the second half of the 80’s to Cracked magazine, one of the oldest American satire and humour magazines. In 1985, his works start also to be published by Fantagraphics. He now lives in Oakland, California with his family.
His bibliography includes the Eightball series, great satires of the American culture and societies, and Ghost World, a graphic novel about two sarcastic teenage girls that became really popular through a movie adaptation.

Born in 1971, Nabiel Kanan is an acclaim British comic artist, which is rare in this country where Comic books and Graphic Novels remain quiet confidential.
There is little information about this author that refuse to do interview.
He lives in Derby, UK where he shares his time between comics, graphic novels and illustration works.
His work includes the Eisner Award nominated Lost Girl, a placeless summer teenage story and The Birthday Riots that I have not read yet but looks related to politics and to the place of homeless people in Britain.

Born in Gifu, Japan in 1963, Junji Ito is a popular Japanese Horror manga artist / writer. His passion for Manga was inspired partly by his older sister who is also a drawing artist. He initially had a dental technician career and manga was only a hobby. Thanks to the success he encountered, he progressively dropped in 90’s his dental activity.
Some recurrent topics appear in his works, such as beauty, long hair and beautiful girls.
Among his bibliography, I particularly know the Uzumaki (spiral) trilogy that had been adapted to movie and according me contributed to enlarge his audience, particularly abroad.

Born in Tel Aviv in 1967, Etgar Keret is definitely one of the most talent writers of the new generation in Israel and probably in the World. Among his publication, the internationally acclaim novels book « The bus driver who wanted to be god & other stories » is a must-have read.
Etgar Keret also collaborates to several comic books, wrote plays and directed at least two films.
His works are a source of inspiration for numerous movie directors, over 40 short movies have been based on his stories.
The picture on the right is very representative of Etgar Keret and appears on different covers of his books.

It seems that Aurelia Aurita is a moon Jellyfish. It is also the name chosen by a young French graphic novel author of Chinese and Cambodian origins.
Born in Paris suburb in 1980, Aurelia Aurita is both a doctor in Pharmacy and a graphic novelist.
In 2004, she went to Japan to collaborate at a collective comic book and felt in love… She stayed in Tokyo where she wrote in 2005 her popular erotic, some critics would say pornographic, graphic novel « Fraise et Chocolat », Strawberry and Chocolate. It is not yet translated in English as far as I know.

A contemporary graphic novelist and author, Marjane Satrapi was born in 1969 in Iran, grew up in Tehran and witness during his childhood a particularly strong shift in The Iranian Regime, with the fall of the Shah, the rising of the Islamic Revolution of the Ayatollahs, and the Iran/ Iraq war.
She now lives in Paris where she both works on Graphic novels and children books.
She met a great worldwide success and got famous for her extra-ordinary autobiographic comic book series, Persepolis.
